Similarities Between Sweetness And Desirees Baby
Within the realm of imagination meets reality, in these stories ââ¬Å"Sweetnessâ⬠by Toni Morrison, and ââ¬Å"Desireeââ¬â¢s Babyâ⬠by Kate Chopin, in each story it s shown that both authors had the father in each story leave for the same reason. The childrenââ¬â¢s skin color happens to come out black in skin color and the fathersââ¬â¢ see this as the worst thing possible, not only do they leave the kids but they disconnected from their partner. From the information that is given from the stories above, we can conclude as readers that the authorsââ¬â¢ apply stereotypes about men being ââ¬Å"useless to the familyâ⬠and shameful on the mothers for creating dark skinned babies. In all of history, we understand that women were treated as if they were 2nd class citizens. Notâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Sweetnessââ¬â¢ daughter is not only successful, but sends money to her mother every month because Sweetness as a good heart and still cares about her mothe r. Although, having a terrible and outrageous mother, her daughter turned out to be a proud black independent woman. Even though, the father had left and having a terrible mom, she surpassed the suppressions that had been placed onto her. Although, the daughter has made herself successful, the father is still out of the picture. Which isnââ¬â¢t unusual because the stereotype that all men leave the women as the kid comes to existence is shown in this book as well as ââ¬Å"Desireeââ¬â¢s Babyâ⬠. In the beginning of the story of ââ¬Å"Desireeââ¬â¢s Babyâ⬠by Kate Chopin, we understand that the baby had been left by her parents near a big stone pillar. Madame Valmondà © is the mother who had found the baby. Desireeââ¬â¢s Mother happens to stop by to see the baby, ââ¬Å"Madame Valmondà © bent her portly figure over Dà ©sirà ©e and kissed her, holding her an instant tenderly in her arms. Then she turned to the child. ââ¬Å"This is not the baby!â⬠she exc laimed, in startled tones. French was the language spoken at Valmondà © in those days.â⬠(Desiree s baby) Valmondà © is a mother that is shocked and is blatantly disrespectful, assuming just because the babies color is different doesnââ¬â¢t make it not yours. ââ¬Å"Madame Valmondà © had never removed her eyes from the child. She lifted it and walked with it over to the window that was lightest. She
